CHINA PLANS + DUMPLING TIME

We had initially planned to visit Kyrgyzstan this year, but unfortunately a few things got in the way. We were tossing up other ideas, but Rob was really keen to return to China – we impulsively booked tickets this week. Flying into Shanghai, and out of Hong Kong – with vague plans of Wuyuan, Zhangjiajie and Guilin in between. If you have any recommendations for these, or the south-east of China – we’d love to hear them.

And even though we’re a couple of months away from landing in Shanghai, I am already planning our xiao long bao/sheng jian¬†bao¬†expeditions. For the uninitiated, these are pork dumplings with a shot of hot broth, fried on the bottom. They are delicious. For my fellow Melburnians, check out Hutong Dumpling Bar and Shanghai Street Dumpling. Last time in Shanghai, we loved Yang’s Fried Dumplings on Huanghe Road (pictured above). It was the first meal of seven months overseas last year, and we still talk about it. And for four for $1, you can’t go wrong.
